Darrin Robbins

I am the eighth child among twelve siblings, all hailing from Gary, Indiana. Although I briefly ventured to California a couple of times, I always found my way back to the Midwest. My journey began as a mechanic specializing in diesel trucks, which provided me with invaluable experience. However, my career took a new turn when I secured a position in the engineering field on a local Casino ship, a role I held from 1996 to 2009. Unfortunately, my career was cut short due to deteriorating eyesight, stemming from the genetic eye disease Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). At the age of 42, I was legally blind and faced the daunting task of finding new employment.

In my time of need, I turned to my brother Dean, a father figure and close friend throughout my life. I approached him with the idea of restoring classic cars together, a venture that saw us purchasing vehicles on the West Coast. Dean handled the mechanical aspects, while I focused on interior work and painting. This hobby not only brought us closer but also provided an enjoyable pursuit.

I am the proud father of four boys and married my wonderful wife, Melissa, in 2009. Together, we are blessed with nine beautiful grandchildren.

In 2019, my son Brandon asked for my assistance in hanging holiday lights, a task I readily undertook to support my sons. However, the frustration of dealing with traditional gutter clips, which often fell and tangled, prompted Brandon to suggest using magnets. Though initially skeptical, I decided to explore this idea further.

After over six hours in the cold, we completed the task. Once back home, I began researching the possibility of a magnetic system for hanging lights. Surprisingly, I found no such product on the market. This inspired me to develop a comprehensive magnetic system that would work on various surfaces, including gutters, window frames, and porch railings, regardless of the material—be it vinyl, aluminum, wood, cement, or stucco. Thus, MagicClip was born, and I embarked on the patent process.

Over the course of a year, I experimented with different materials to bring MagicClip to life. Once again, I turned to my brother in California, who became a mentor, contributing to the manufacturing, packaging, and design aspects. In January 2023, I received my patent and trademark for MagicClip, and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to my supportive family and friends who have been instrumental in helping me realize the full potential of MagicClip. A special thanks to my wife, Melissa, for her unwavering support and patience throughout this journey.

I'm Dean Robbins, originally from Gary, Indiana, and I'm the third of 12 siblings. In my early twenties, I embarked on a journey to California in search of employment opportunities and better weather. It took me three tries, but eventually, I secured a job and, shortly thereafter, met the love of my life. Our marriage has now spanned over 35 years, and we are proud parents to a wonderful daughter.

Our home is now in Roseville, California, where a few years ago, I retired after dedicating 35 years to a career as a maintenance mechanic.

Retirement has ushered in a phase of life I truly cherish. I relish my morning strolls and treasure the moments spent with my family, including my delightful Golden Retriever grandpuppy. I stay active with various household projects and lend a hand to my brother, Darrin, in the development of MagicClip. We're thrilled to announce that we recently secured a patent for MagicClip earlier this year!



I face unique challenges as I am legally blind; afflicted with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), a genetic condition that progressively diminishes my peripheral vision. Remarkably, two of my siblings share this condition, but we persist with determination, utilizing the vision we have left to propel ourselves forward. Our collective aim is to assist visually impaired individuals through the creation of assistive devices or by providing donations that can enhance their quality of life.
